Vypno GmbH’s AIBEM Project Redefines Building Assessments for Energy Efficiency
The AIBEM project, led by Vypno GmbH, and awarded in the first SUSTAIN Eurocluster Open Call, is set to transform the way buildings are evaluated for energy efficiency. Traditionally, building assessments rely on manual, on-site inspections—a process that is both time-consuming and expensive. AIBEM introduces a groundbreaking solution by leveraging AI-powered computer vision technology to estimate 3D measurements of building exteriors and roofs using only images. This innovative approach offers a faster, more scalable, and cost-effective alternative to conventional methods.
At the core of AIBEM’s innovation is the use of synthetic data. By generating precise, annotated datasets and training advanced AI models, AIBEM is able to surpass the accuracy of traditional measurement techniques. The system’s flexibility allows for easy retraining and continuous refinement, ensuring consistently high accuracy in estimating building dimensions. Even in challenging scenarios, such as images affected by shadows, distortions, or obstructions, AIBEM’s AI models can detect geometric features with remarkable precision.
While the project addresses significant technical challenges—such as noise in building images that complicates 3D measurements and the traditional reliance on LiDAR data for spatial information—AIBEM has developed advanced post-processing algorithms and AI models trained on widely accessible data. This enables reliable 3D estimations without the need for costly, specialized equipment, offering a transformative solution for building assessments.
Looking ahead, Vypno GmbH aims to further enhance its AI models and broaden AIBEM’s application across a diverse range of building types. This will support more sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective energy assessments for both new and existing structures, positioning AIBEM at the forefront of energy efficiency innovation in the built environment.
